The Greatest Sponsor Ever Sold

Ready or not, here it comes; Super Bowl Sunday is here! Personally, I’m a huge football fan so I’m going to watch anyways; but there are those who watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials. But sponsoring the Super Bowl is an endeavor of epic proportion. Who’s got that kind of dough? Well, Budweiser (whom by the way, has the Super Bowl locked up through 2014), Hyundai Motors, and of course; Pepsi.

It’s That Time Again

To have a Super Bowl commercial is to have success. Nobody who helps sponsor the Super Bowl is going to go unnoticed, nor are they soon to forget how much it set them back. To run a 30 second spot on this year’s Super Bowl it’s only going to cost your company three million dollars. The predictions are that this year’s Super Bowl attendance will be the largest in history. Even the Super Bowl commercials are subject to inflation. Back in 2000 a Super Bowl spot was a mere pittance; two million dollars. Five years earlier in 1995, only one million dollars bought you a Super Bowl advertising opportunity.

Sponsorship Ideas That Were Golden

Whoever came up with some of the most infamous commercials of all Super Bowl history had to be some of the most brilliant advertisers’ of all time. In 1979 ’Mean Joe Greene’ brought a tear to everyone’s eye when Coca-Cola had him toss his jersey to a young fan. “1984”’s famous Macintosh Apple ad did wonders for the company. TV shows such as ‘All In The Family’ (1978) got their 2¢ in (so to speak) by having a special immediately following the big event. Not to be outdone, entertainment has had its moments as well (wardrobe mall function).

All in all, fame is only three million dollars away. A small price to pay for securing your spot in history.
